What: This three-hour trip allows you to taste beer from Woodland’s Black Dragon Brewery as you absorb the tempos, drumming patterns and guitar riffs of metal music. The pouring begins 30 minutes before departure, and you’ll leave with a souvenir tasting glass. VIP boarding includes a boxed dinner.

Depictions of growing beauty
What: Should this be your weekend for a tour of wineries in the Lodi region, add an art gallery to the outing. Knowlton Gallery, which shows the work of fine artists who work within a two-hour radius of Lodi, has an exhibit through September, “Bouquets: Gardens, Farmers Markets & Floral Still Lifes.” The works of nine artists are in the exhibit.

Stirring the pot for bragging rights
What: These folks respond when the fire alarm rings, but this is about fire-alarm-chili bragging rights. Local fire departments vie for the people’s vote by handing out the chili they’re cooking in this annual event. Celebrity judges have a say, too. While the cooks focus on food, others will use demonstrations and interactive activities to educate about fire safety and rescue operations. The setting is Safetyville USA.

The story behind Land Park
What: William Land, for whom one of Sacramento’s beloved parks is named, overcame his status as an indentured servant in the 1800s to make a fortune in Sacramento. He envisioned and donated land for a centrally located public space for people from all walks of life. A documentary produced by filmmaker Robert Lee Grant focuses on the park’s story. A clip of that documentary will be shown as part of a fundraiser for the film’s production.

Pavilions Night Out
Hitting the runway for fashion and art
What: Pavilions Night Out 2013 celebrates fashion, retail shopping, food, music and the arts. A celebrity fashion runway walk showcases apparel from Pavilions’ specialty stores. Providing entertainment will be the St. Francis High School A Capella Group, B Street Theatre and San Francisco DJ-producer David Carvahlo. Food and cocktails will be available.
