49ers Report Card: Week 2

Published: Monday, Sep. 16, 2013 - 12:00 am | Page 6C

Offense: Colin Kaepernick comes crashing to earth with three interceptions. The 49ers sustained no rhythm and lost their confidence and composure. Grade: F

Defense: Against any other team, the effort would have produced a win. The 49ers sacked slippery Russell Wilson four times and intercepted him once. A coverage breakdown in the third quarter and a personal foul on Aldon Smith proved crucial. Grade: B

Special teams: Craig Dahl's blocked punt led to the 49ers' only scoring opportunity of the first half, but the coverage teams gave up two sizable returns early in the game. Grade: B

Overall: The 49ers could not take advantage of early opportunities to take a lead and to take the crowd out of the game. Instead, the Seahawks won their second straight against the 49ers. Grade: D+
