A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday to mark the grand opening of a new Walmart Neighborhood Market at 5609 Pacific St. in Rocklin.
At 53,000 square feet, the store is approximately one-third the size of a Walmart Supercenter and is the first Walmart in Rocklin.
The Neighborhood Market format is intended to offer quick and convenient shopping, with a full grocery department, including organic and natural food selections, according to a Walmart news release. The store will feature prepared food options, fresh-baked breads, and a full-service deli and bakery, as well as a pharmacy. It will be open daily from 6 a.m. to midnight.
The new store employs about 95 full- and part-time associates.
The grand-opening celebration will include presentation of $8,000 in grants from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation to local community groups. Recipients include the Rocklin Fire Department, Rocklin Police Department, Kids First, Rocklin High School, Spring View Middle School, Destiny Christian Church, Rocklin Friends of the Library, Rocklin Junior Thunder Football and Cheer Association, Rocklin Public Safety Volunteers Inc., Rocklin Unified School District, Granite Oaks Middle School and Rocklin Elementary School.
