Re "Limit population" (Letters, Sept. 16): Like letter writer Chuck Knudson, I have feared for some time that our planet would wobble out of orbit due to all those extra, redundant, unnecessary people and their accompanying pollution.
He will be glad to learn that this quality of life issue has been addressed. The Guttmacher Institute reports an annual loss of at elast 20 percent of our would-be citizens before they are born; the downturn in the economy and various other factors have resulted in a decreasing total fertility rate in our nation, as recently as 2010, according to the National Center for Health statistics.
Things seem to be working out better than we hoped, Mr. Knudson.
