Re "Driver's license measure will make roads safer" (Editorial, Sept. 17): The Bee's editorial board writes that illegal immigrants getting driver's licenses would make the roads safer. How is this going to happen?
Illegal immigrants will not be required to have insurance just because they get a driver's license. Getting a driver's license does not provide more money for them to buy insurance. Most already are driving to their jobs anyway.
The only thing this bill will do is provide people breaking our laws with a privilege afforded citizens and legal residents.
Liberals back changing laws to make lawbreakers suddenly legal citizens rather than tackling the real problem, and that is realizing amnesty is an encouragement for more people to break the law.
Immigration reform needs to start with fixing issues with the path to citizenship, not giving lawbreakers more rights. Don't get me started on allowing noncitizens to sit on juries.
