Coastal urbanites can keep their money

Re "Siskiyou vies to secede? How very Californian!" (Viewpoints, Sept. 18): Joe Mathews, a self-described urban coastal type, is like most liberal urbanites who toil within the media. They don't get it and probably never will.

Yes, if you are handing out free money, most of us will gladly accept it, whether or not we need it, but that is not the point.

It really isn't all about the money you have appropriated from some to give to others. Many of us would rather keep what money we earn and use it as we would like, here at home.

Maybe we don't want all your bureaucracy. Maybe we don't need all your handouts and programs. Maybe we can spend our money locally and more wisely than you folks on the urban coast. Maybe we don't believe that liberal concentrations of voters on the urban coast truly represent the majority of this state.
