The Rim fire has burned its way into the record books, charring more than 250,000 acres of forest lands – including about 80,000 acres in Yosemite National Park. The fire started on Aug. 17, when a hunter's fire spread, and consumed up to 50,000 acres per day at its peak. By acreage, it is now the third largest fire in recorded state history.
