The Rim fire has burned its way into the record books, charring more than 250,000 acres of forest lands including about 80,000 acres in Yosemite National Park. The fire started on Aug. 17, when a hunter's fire spread, and consumed up to 50,000 acres per day at its peak. By acreage, it is now the third largest fire in recorded state history.
