Food stamp opposition is extremist

Re "House to vote on food stamps" (Page A6, Sept. 19): The vote to decrease food stamp funds is one more similarity between conservative extremists and Middle Eastern extremists.

Both groups want to bring down their governments for being too liberal. Both groups endorse ignorance, here by cutting funds for Headstart programs, school meals and education about family planning. Both groups rail against science because it conflicts with views rooted in the past. Both groups try to control women.

Most importantly, both groups try to control through fear with the actual use of guns or the threat of losing them, using the Us-versus-Them view of the world.
