Re "GOP, Boehner vow federal shutdown out of mere spite" (Editorials, Sept. 19): The Bee overlooked two important factors in its criticism of Republicans.
First, the overriding goal of every member of Congress, whether Republican or Democrat, is to be re-elected by the voters in their district, not by Americans collectively. As someone once said, all politics is local.
Second, according to recent polling, Obamacare is more unpopular today than when it was approved in 2010, with 53 percent of those polled disapproving.
One may disagree with the current Republican methods to defund or modify Obamacare, but neither the politicians nor the majority of Americans who oppose the law are likely to heed The Bee's advice to "get over it."
