Re "GOP, Boehner vow federal shutdown out of mere spite" (Editorials, Sept. 19): If you cannot elect a Republican president, or win enough seats to control both houses of Congress, no problem. Just shut down the federal government until you can unilaterally dictate all public policies through the strategy of blackmail.
And don't forget that you can also force the United States to renege on its debts, which were incurred by Congress in prior years, refusing to raise the debt ceiling. Pretty powerful political stuff.
Why does this remind me of a child's temper tantrum? If tea party Republicans believe they hold the moral high ground, they should win the Senate in 2014 and White House in 2016. Then, they would have a legitimate right to determine public policy. Today, they are just irresponsible.
