A Golden Gate divide coming

Published: Thursday, Sep. 19, 2013 - 10:23 pm

Golden Gate Bridge workers shift traffic lanes during the end of the morning commute Thursday in San Francisco.

The bridge’s Building and Operating Committee agreed to buy a $26.5 million barrier Thursday, and the full board is expected to accept the recommendation today. Friday Opposing traffic is now separated by a row of yellow plastic tubes.

The steel and concrete median would prevent head-on collisions. It would be moveable as well.

Bridge officials are expected to approve the purchase of a $26.5 million barrier between north- and southbound traffic at meetings this week.
