Significantly cooler temperatures are forecast for today and into the weekend as a wet weather system heads toward Northern California.
The approaching system is predicted to lower daytime maximum temperatures into the mid-80s today and the low 70s on Saturday in Sacramento.
The National Weather Service is calling for a 60 percent chance of rain in Sacramento on Saturday, beginning after 11 a.m. Forecasters say that the Sacramento region could get between a tenth and a quarter-of-an-inch of rain.
The second half of the weekend should be sunny, according to the NWS. Sunday’s weather forecast looks splendid: sunny, 77 degrees and a breeze.

Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 84. South-southeast wind 5 to 13 mph.
Tonight: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 61. South wind 6 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.
Saturday: Showers likely, mainly after 11am. Partly sunny, with a high near 72. South-southwest wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
Saturday night: A 20 percent chance of showers before 11p.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 54. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming lighter from the south in the evening.
Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 77. Light north wind becoming north-northwest 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon.
