A nonpartisan group plans an educational forum for Merced County voters on Thursday.

The League of Women Voters will hold the forum from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday in the Merced City Council chambers, 678 W. 18th St., according to a press release.

The topic for the evening’s discussion is the impact of social media on voter behavior.

The forum will answer a number of questions, the release said. For example: Do you wonder why you identify with or react to some political advertisements more than others? Which messages appeal to you and which alienate you? Is your trusted messenger Facebook, Twitter or a blog?

The panel is scheduled to include Jessica Trounstine, professor of political science at the University of California, Merced; Teenie Matlock, professor of behavioral science at UC Merced; Phil Trounstine, former editor of the San Jose Mercury News; and Ryan Heller, legislative aide and political consultant.

This event is open to the public, the release stated.
