Ex-boyfriend sought in attack on Merced woman

A man described by Merced police as a jealous ex-boyfriend is being sought in connection with the stabbing of a 34-year-old woman Friday, authorities reported.

The woman, whose name was not released due to the domestic violence allegations, was hospitalized with serious injuries, Sgt. Curt Gorman said.

Police are seeking Dominic Rodriguez, 34, of San Luis Obispo in connection with the attack. His description was not released Friday.

“He’s considered armed and dangerous,” Gorman said. “They’ve been split up for more than a year, and he’s been hassling her for a year.”

Rodriguez went to the woman’s home at 252 Citadel Drive some time Friday. He allegedly beat and stabbed her in an attack that came “without warning,” according to police.

“He demanded to know where her new boyfriend lives and said that he would kill her if she did not show him,” police said in a statement.

The woman told police she does not have a new boyfriend, but was forced into a truck and ordered to give him directions. She said she fabricated directions and tricked him into driving to the downtown area.

“When Rodriguez came to a stop at Canal and Main streets, she jumped out of the truck and ran for help,” according to the police.

Officers picked up the woman’s three children from school and took them to a safe place, authorities said.

Police contacted Rodriguez by phone and said he promised to surrender. As of Friday night, he had not turned himself in to police, Gorman said.

While investigators were collecting evidence from the woman’s house, Rodriguez managed to have someone drive him to the area and escaped in his vehicle before police could stop him, according to the department.

He was last seen driving a red- or burgundy-colored Mitsubishi Galant with the California license plate number 6PGL326.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Merced Police Department at (209)385-4702 or the department’s tip line at (209)385-4725. Tips are kept confidential and callers can remain anonymous.
