Re "Our republic depends on upon civic learning" (Viewpoints, Sept. 19): The World Peace Game recently came to my attention. I can't wait to play this game myself, as it offers all students of civic affairs an experience that's as complex as modern global politics yet as empowering as starting your own business.
Other options include the Model UN for teens, as well as the wonderful, year-long, role-playing civics program I lucked into at my pre-Proposition 13 high school.
Another way to teach civics by modeling the behavior would be to restructure public schools to be run by faculty senates, where principals would be the executive officers.
