Re "Farm to Fork Week debuts with cattle" (Our Region, Sept. 23): The Farm to Fork movement is something to be proud of.
Protecting our farmland is probably the most important part of the effort. Paramount is leaving a legacy to future generations so they can experience the bounty from this wonderful region. It is imperative that we do not put this legacy at risk.
In Elk Grove, we are on the brink of one of these decisions, expansion of the city's "sphere of influence" south and east of Elk Grove. This is the worst decision we could possibly make. No matter how often I hear the tired and lame reasons for doing this, I know that the driving force behind those decisions is money, politics and the insatiable hunger of developers for creating more sprawl.
We must preserve our precious farmland. We must change the way we approach this or we are doomed.
