Re "For anti-gun zealots, just the thought counts" (Viewpoints, Sept. 21): Ben Boychuk complains that U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein wants "unilateral disarmament" of weapons.
Sounds like the old claim that when guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns. No one wants to, or ever did want to collect everyone's gun. Feinstein simply wants to see guns kept out of the hands of the wrong people.
Boychuk also spends much of his column on criticizing Feinstein for wrongly identifying the type of gun used in the Navy Yard killings, as was mistakenly reported in some news accounts based on early police reports. That's a minor problem compared to the number of gun deaths this country suffers each year.
How about Congress going back to step one by investigating why so many other countries suffer far less gun violence than we do?
And rather than offer gun safety classes on college campuses, why not have the National Rifle Association offer them on a wide-open gun range where people are not so concentrated and accidents less likely?
