Re "County Democratic official quits over offensive tweet" (Our Region, Sept. 21): If threatening the wellbeing of children is the standard for whether or not you should resign from a political position, then shouldn't all Republican (and many Democrats) resign for supporting programs that threaten the health and safety of children?
Obamacare will provide medical coverage for thousands of uninsured children. No one is denying that. Opposing Obamacare is a real threat to the lives of thousands of children. Yet, I haven't heard Sen. Ted Cruz's speechwriter, the National Review, the Drudge Report or the chair of the Sacramento County Republican Party calling for the massive resignation of House Republicans for supporting defunding of Obamacare or, for that matter, for supporting cuts to food stamps and school programs that feed and protect children.
Republicans believe that if you threaten my children, that's reprehensible. But, if you threaten thousands of children, that's OK because it's just politics. It's not. It's textbook hypocrisy.
