Drivers license is a privilege, not a right

Re "Major questions surround little card" (Page A1, Sept. 24): I am against giving someone who entered the United States illegally a drivers license.

I don't see why it is so necessary. We didn't have a car when I was growing up for some of the time and we walked or took the bus.

I was taught that driving is not a right but a privilege. Our daughters were required to produce a birth certificate in order to get their drivers permit and one needed it for a job in San Diego. Either open the border or close it and enforce existing laws.
