Lightweight champion Anthony Pettis will make his first title defense against Josh Thomson in the featured bout at the Ultimate Fight Championship's final Fox event of the year UFC on Fox 9 at Sleep Train Arena on Dec. 14.
In the co-main event, Sacramento's Urijah Faber will fight Michael McDonald. Sacramento's Chad Mendes will fight undefeated welterweight Nik Lentz on the undercard.
The main, expected to start about 5 p.m., will be broadcast nationally on Fox (FOX40 in Sacramento). Preliminary bouts, broadcast on FS1, will begin at 2 p.m.
Tickets, starting at $50, will go sale Oct. 4 at 10 a.m. at the arena box office and ticketmaster.com.
Pro tennis event begins Monday in Natomas
Denis Kudla, ranked 99th in the world, heads the 32-player main draw for the Sacramento $100,000 USTA Pro Circuit Challenger at Natomas Racquet Club.
Qualifying for the final four spots in the main draw begins Saturday, with main-draw play beginning Monday. The championship is Oct. 6.

Sac State men win Boise State golf title
Sacramento State's men won the Boise State Dash Thomas Memorial in Eagle, Idaho, by 12 strokes, the school reported. Freshman Cody Bates tied for fifth to pace the Hornets.
Tanna Richard of Fort Smith, Ark., defeated Rocklin's Lynne Cowan 2 and 1 in the round of 32 at the U.S. Senior Women's Amateur in San Martin.

Boxing is returning to Cache Creek Casino
After an eight-year absence, professional boxing returns to the Cache Creek Casino Resort in Brooks on Saturday with a card featuring an International Boxing Organization title fight between middleweight champion Paul Mendez (13-2-1) of Salinas and Rahman Yusubov (9-11) of Dallas.
An undercard featuring Northern California boxers begins at 6 p.m.
The weigh-in is Friday at 3 p.m. at the casino, where tickets can be purchased.
