Re "Shaq is a jolt of energy" (Marcos Breton, Sept. 25): Bee columnist Marcos Breton writes, "It's hard to imagine the opponents of a Kings Arena being amused..."

Opponents of an arena, Mr. Breton? What opponents?

I've talked to a lot of locals about the proposed arena and never found anyone opposed to an arena. Downtown Plaza is in need of a transformation, and neither I nor anyone I've talked to can think of any more exciting use of Downtown Plaza than a new arena.

However, many of us are appalled that the majority of our City Council members would favor spending our city money on the huge subsidy that has been proposed to build an arena. The issue is the arena subsidy and not the arena. Can The Bee please correctly identify the issue? I look forward to voting against the subsidy, and am confident that the arena will be built with private financing when voters end the subsidy.
