Sunny weather on Saturday in Sacramento; chance of rain Sunday

The Sacramento region will see highs in the low 80s Saturday with clear skies.

But the outer edges of a storm system currently off the Canadian coast is heading southward and will bring with it a 20 percent chance of rain to the northern Sacramento region on Sunday morning and on toward the evening, said Drew Peterson with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

“We’re right on the edge of where we would get some precipitation from this system,” Peterson said. However, he said, if the storm manages to head further south than expected it would bring only a sprinkling of rain to the region.

After Saturday’s expected high of a sunny 82 degrees, clouds are expected to move in Sunday morning ahead of the storm system. Cloudy skies will stay in the area throughout the day, with temperatures Sunday in the high 70s, with a high of 78 expected for Sacramento.

It will be breezy from Sunday night into Monday morning, with winds calming down on Tuesday, Peterson said.

The storm system – which will bring a decent amount of rain to the northernmost reaches of the state above Oroville, will stay in the Northern California area until Monday, resulting in a 20 percent chance of rain Monday – though the Sacramento region is not likely to see any rain.

Temperatures on Monday are forecast in the low-to-mid 70s. Monday will likely be overcast or partly cloudy, with clouds moving out of the area Monday evening.

Peterson said dry conditions and cooler than normal temperatures are forecast for the beginning and middle part of next week. Temperatures will be 5 to 8 degrees cooler than normal for this time of year, he said. Tuesday and Wednesday will see clear skies and temperatures in the upper 70s and highs in the low 80s.
