Re "Blame game as shutdown looms" (Page A1, Sept. 30): The recent behavior of Republican representatives is the worst example of governance I have seen in my lifetime. Instead of finding ways to improve the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, they have spent their time and energy trying to dismantle it without ever offering a viable plan to provide health care insurance for the millions of people without it.
Members of Congress are elected to work for the good of the country, yet while Republicans complain about government spending, they are not concerned about the costs that will be incurred in shutting down government functions, and placing federal workers on furlough
Republicans, especially the extreme right, are setting a terrible example for young people. Instead of finding reasonable solutions through negotiation and compromise, they have chosen a style of governance that resembles schoolyard bullying.
