Re "Don't abandon recovery of wolves" (Forum, Sept. 29): Why does the federal government seem to be giving up on wolf recovery not just here in California, but across the country? Gray wolves are far from inhabiting their former historic range, yet U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is proposing delisting, ending federal Endangered Species Act protections.
I was excited when OR-7 became the first wolf in our state in almost 90 years. I was sad to see him leave, yet hopeful that more will make their way to California from Oregon and Washington. But if the gray wolf is delisted, that isn't likely to happen.
Wolves matter to me. That's why I am flying across the state to speak at the Sacramento hearing on Wednesday. So that my voice can be heard. Will you speak up for wolves too? Let's keep this iconic species protected.
