Immediate impact of shutdown here contradicts editorial

Re "How shutdown would be felt here" (Page A8) and "House GOP owns reckless federal shutdown(Editorials, Oct. 1): In typical Bee fashion, the editorials show a complete lack of knowledge and even contradict the paper's own news articles.

On page A8, describing how the government shutdown would be felt here, The Bee's news article states that Social Security recipients will not experience a cut in payments. But in the editorial, the editorial board infers that "Social Security payments could be delayed".

Then on A8, the news article states that medical services to veterans will continue unimpaired. But in the editorial, the editorial board infers that "health care for veterans could be curtailed."

So make up your mind, which are we to believe? The Democratic-led Senate has refused to negotiate any compromise with House Republicans and President Barack Obama is more willing to talk to Iran but not Republican leaders. Yet according to The Bee's editorial board, the GOP owns the shutdown? Priceless...
