What: The Center for California Studies at CSU Sacramento will present the Envisioning California Conference — Food for Thought: Current Food Trends and Policies in the Golden State. Included will be farm-to-fork trends. Author and organic farmer David Mas Masumoto will deliver the keynote address.

When: 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Oct. 11

Bakery great place to work

What: The worker-owned Alvarado Street Bakery in Petaluma has been named by Great Place to Work as one of the best workplaces in the United States on the publication’s 2013 Best Small & Medium Workplaces list. The annual selection process included employee questionnaires and a workplace audit, and evaluated businesses on credibility, respect, fairness, pride and camaraderie. The solar-powered cooperative has made breads, bagels, buns and tortillas with organic sprouted wheat since 1978 and sells its products in grocery stores and natural food stores.
