The Rio Linda-Elverta Country Faire chicken sign has been returned.
The organizers of the Sept. 14 fair put out the word this week that one of their $200 signs with a cowboy-hat wearing chicken had been taken from a spot near the Rio Linda arch on M Street.
Fair volunteer officials lamented the loss because they had planned to use the sign again for the 2014 fair. E-mails, social network sites and a story on Sacbee.com on Tuesday noted how it would be nice if the sign was returned.
Sure enough, a local resident called fair chairman Mike Grandinetti Tuesday to say that he had taken it, thinking it would not be used again. The cute, cartoonish nature of the large sign made it a perfect addition to the mans garage.
When the man found out that the sign was still wanted by the fair, the sign-taker called Grandinetti to apologize for walking off with it. When Grandinetti came home from dinner Tuesday, the Rio Linda chicken sign was on his porch.
No harm, no foul, said Grandinetti.
