Most Rocklin train crossings go silent

Rocklin residents can expect life to be a little quieter after a city application to silence trains through most city intersections was implemented Tuesday.

Under the agreement, trains will no longer routinely sound horns prior to road crossings at Americana Way, Del Mar Avenue, Farron Street, Midas Avenue (two crossings) and Rocklin Road.

The application took 12 months, required a review by numerous entities and required safety upgrades. Engines will continue sound their horn in the event of a malfunctioning crossing warning device, if railroad employees are working near the tracks, or as a warning for something or someone on the tracks.
