A tree limb into a line during blustery winds caused several thousand SMUD customers to lose electricity today in the downtown area.
The tree limb into a primary line near a substation in Sacramento's midtown area shortly before noon caused a short outage. Power was restored before a second power failure occurred.
The second outage occurred when the circuit re-opened about 12:10 p.m. That outage lasted about 15 minutes.
At one point, 4,800 customers were without power downtown, a Sacramento Municipal Utility District spokesman said. Other scattered, smaller outages were also reported Thursday.
