Re "Holding budget hostage sets a terrible precedent" (Editorials, Oct. 2): The small group of extremist Republicans, many from gerrymandered districts, who didn't get their way, are pouting and shaking their fists at those who dare to offer health coverage to people. The Affordable Care Act is law. It was voted for by both branches of Congress, signed by the president, and confirmed by the Supreme Court. President Barack Obama was re-elected.
I hope these extremist Republicans make sure they have no family members using Medicare, taking Social Security benefits, eating subsidized school lunches, receiving mail via the U.S. Post Office, taking military benefits, getting college financial aid, or for that matter, driving on roads or bridges. They're all paid for out of the federal budget. Oh, and surely they are refusing to use the excellent health benefits that come with their jobs. Much better, according to them, to have the freedom of having no health care.
