Re "Why not pay health fine?" (Letters, Oct. 1): The letter writer's suggestion that people "with half a brain" won't buy medical insurance until they "need it" is like suggesting that car owners won't buy auto insurance until they need it. After you've been seriously injured or seriously ill, getting medical insurance won't cover the tens of thousands (or more) you now owe in medical bills. They'll cover pre-existing conditions, not pre-existing bills.
