Re " Expansion of fracking is wrong direction" (Forum, Sept. 29): Michael Brune and Kathryn Phillips are missing the point. It mentions only Monterey Shale.

Fracking is taking place in Alameda, Butte, Colusa, Contra Costa, Fresno, Glenn, Humbolt, Kern, Kings, Los Angeles, Madera, Merced, Monterey, Orange, Sacramento, San Benito, San Bernadino, San Joaquin, San Luis Obispo, San Mateo, Santa Barbara, Santa Clara, Solano, Stanislaus, Sutter, Tehama, Tulare, Ventura, Yolo and Yuba counties, according to the State of California oil and gas information.
As of 2011 there were more than 54,000 fracked gas and oil wells as well as 29,000 deep injection wells with 56 regulators. As of 2011 there were 2,944,719,077 barrels of produced water. Produced water is the waste of chemicals and water that have been transported and injected.
