Re "Public vote on arena? Unneded, but it could help settle the issue" (Editorials, Sept. 29): The Bee's editorial board says, "If voters didn't like the method of financing, they could have voiced those concerns by electing City Council members who pledged to reject it." I attended multiple pre-election events last Fall so that I could select a candidate who did not support huge public subsidies (a quarter of a billion dollars!) for an arena. I voted for Steve Hansen.
Poor me, I was duped. And I'm not alone. The morning of the arena vote, The Bee reported that Steve Hansen was planning to vote against the subsidy package. The next morning, I read that he supported it. It's time the issue goes to all of us for a vote. We can't count on our City Council to "act in the public interest."
