Re "Boehner pledges to avoid default, say colleagues" (Page A1, Oct. 4): In order defeat Obamacare, the House Republicans have shut down the government with a few exceptions. Two of the exceptions are Obamacare and their own salaries. How does this make any sense? If Boehner was less interested in retaining his position as speaker and more interested in serving the nation this wouldn't have happened.
