American River College, ranked fifth in the state, belted national powerhouse and state No. 1 City College of San Francisco 34-13 Saturday in a nonconference football game in San Francisco.
Jake Bist threw touchdown passes of 17 yards to Adonis Griffin and 5 yards to Tyler Trosin, Drake Toffi had a 37-yard scoring run, and Matthew Rashad returned a fumble 39 yards to the end zone for a 31-6 lead for the 5-0 Beavers, who lost to the Rams 41-36 last December in the Northern California championship game.
ARC recorded six sacks and had four interceptions, two by Malcolm Scott. The Rams have won six state championships since 1999 and finished No. 1 in the country nine times.
"It's a really big win," ARC coach Jerry Haflich said. "This is what we've been working for."
Pro tennis final set
Second-seeded Tim Smy- czek of Tampa, Fla., and eighth-seeded Donald Young reached the final of the $100,000 Sacramento Pro Circuit Challenger with easy victories Saturday at the Natomas Racquet Club.
Smyczek, from Tampa, Fla., defeated unseeded Nick Kyrgios of Australia 6-3, 6-1. Young, from Atlanta, beat wild card Jarmere Jenkins of College Park, Ga., 6-2, 6-2.
After today's 1 p.m. singles final, second-seeded Matt Reid and John-Patrick Smith of Australia will meet wild cards Jenkins and Young for the doubles title.

Boxing cards scheduled
Northern California prospects top Oct. 12 boxing cards at Sacramento's Red Lion Woodlake Hotel and the Placer County Fairgrounds events center in Roseville.
At the Red Lion, junior welterweight Moris Rodriquez (4-2-1) of Chico will face Manuel Rose (3-0) of San Leandro in a featured bout. Included on the undercard, beginning at 7 p.m., are heavyweight Rodney Hernandez (4-1) of Modesto and two Sacramentans, bantamweight Mario Ayala (2-0) and veteran amateur heavyweight Ojayland Brown, who will make his pro debut.
