Re "Among electric vehicles, Tesla is the biggest star" (Our Region, Sept. 3): The National Plug-In Day event in Folsom was a huge success with more than 250 test drives in a variety of electric vehicles. However, your readers might have gotten the impression it was "National Tesla Day" as The Bee's coverage virtually ignored the other vehicles there.
Plug-In Day's purpose is to highlight all electric vehicles. Most test drives were in the Chevy Volt, Chevy Spark, Nissan Leaf, and plug-in versions of the Toyota RAV4, Smart Car, Honda Accord, and others were all at the event. Those cars are priced in the $20,000 range, and they all have the same level of performance, comfort, and features people expect in a quality car.
The Tesla is an excellent car. We appreciate that its style and performance grab the headlines. But we want to make sure your readers understand there are wide range many other affordable, viable EVs.
