Re "Health phone lines jammed" (Page A1, Oct. 2): As an eligibility worker in Santa Clara County, I am on the front lines of helping people obtain health care services.
Like any great endeavor, the first day of enrollment through the Covered California health exchange started with a few bumps along the way.
But by 3 p.m. Covered California reported 17,000 calls and more than 514,000 views on the website. As county eligibility Workers, we are excited, experienced, and committed to enrolling as many Californians into health care as possible no matter what challenges we face.
We expected hiccups with implementing such massive reform to health care. Fortunately, the state has enlisted our 22,000 experienced eligibility workers who know how to navigate the system to find any way possible to get clients enrolled. It's what we do best. And we will proudly continue to help families get the care they need through Covered California.
