Re "Alas, Davis politics trumps public health" (Editorials, Oct. 4): It's ironic that the Davis City Council, which represents one of the finest institutions of higher learning -- the University of California, Davis -- has succumbed to the ideological bugaboo that fluoridated water is "harmful to people, the environment and water supply."
What makes the council's position even more ironic is that UC Davis is home to the MIND Institute, the leading research and treatment center dealing with neuro-developmental disorders. Recently, the MIND Institute rejected a similar irrational notion thath claimed that there is a causal relationship between the use of vaccines and the rise of autism.
This kind of archaic thinking impedes treatments which can benefit the health of all of us.
