Offense: Colin Kaepernick doesn't put up gaudy numbers, but he doesn't turn the ball over, either – and he connects with Vernon Davis on a 64-yard touchdown pass. Frank Gore and the team's run blockers have their second straight strong game. Grade: B

Defense: The 49ers gave up yardage to the Texans. But that was more than offset by three interceptions and a relatively quiet outing for Texans receiver Andre Johnson. Grade: A-

Special teams: The 49ers' coverage units are rounding into form as C.J. Spillman has another big hit on a return. Grade: A

Overall: The 49ers pull to within a game of the division-leading Seahawks with the Cardinals heading into town next week. Still, they may have lost dependable lineman Ray McDonald for an extended period, and that will sting. Grade: B+
