Re "State GOP's own 'suicide caucus' heads for the cliff" (Dan Morain, Forum, Oct. 6): A quote from Herman Melville: "Of all the preposterous assumptions of humanity, nothing exceeds the criticisms of the habits of the poor by the well-housed, well-warmed and well-fed."
My own inquiry: Why do they who have so much would try so hard to deny so little to so many who have so much less.
Let's be clear about this folks. The Affordable Care Act -- aka Obamacare -- has been so watered down that it is akin to tossing a few crumbs to the hungry. And yet its impact has already been significant -- extended coverage for adult children, insurance for those with pre-existing conditions and coverage for 43 million-plus Americans who previously could not afford any.
This government shutdown is nothing but an attempt by the haves to prevent the have-nots from getting even a small piece of the pie. Shame, shame!
