Re "State GOP's own 'suicide caucus' heads for the cliff" (Dan Morain, Forum, Oct. 6): It is ironic that the most dependable constituency for Congressman Tom McClintock are seniors. If this shutdown succeeds and the Affordable Care Act is eliminated, and if Rep. Paul Ryan's budget is enacted, seniors would receive a voucher and forced to go into the health marketplace.
Unfortunately, we probably couldn't buy insurance at any price because of our health. Few, if any, seniors do not have a pre-existing condition. How many seniors would be accepted with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, cancer, heart problems or any other medical problem?
Seniors have been fed a diet of lies that Obamacare is a threat to Medicare. Congressmen like McClintock are the real threat to seniors and good health care. Why they want to destroy access for the uninsured and Medicare recipients is a mystery. The real "suicide caucus" is not the state's GOP, but the seniors who keep them in office.
