For the third year in a row, Sacramento County has received a statewide award for innovation, this time for a smart phone app that helps voters.
Matthew Cate, executive director of the California State Association of Counties, presented Jill LaVine, Sacramento County registrar of voters, with a 2013 Challenge Award at this morning’s Board of Supervisors meeting. Cate said no one at CSAC could remember a county winning the award three years in a row.
This year’s award recognizes SACVOTE, which provides users with voter registration status, turn-by-turn directions to their polling place, background information on candidates and more.
Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura counties also received Challenge Awards in the large county category this year.
In previous years, Sacramento County won Challenge Awards for a service center that helps health care and food stamp recipients and for a night court program for probation violators.
