Monkeying around with monkey bread

In honor of National Cinnamon Roll Day, I thought I’d share with you my delicious vanilla cinnamon monkey bread. It’s not really a roll, but the warm dough bits surrounded in cinnamon sugar and doused in vanilla butter will take you to the land of yummy-ness! And there’s nothing better than waking up in the morning to the sweet smell of vanilla and sugar!

Growing up gritty in New Jersey

When we were kids, we ate a lot of grits. Being from New Jersey, this was unusual. People in New Jersey do not really eat grits, most people don’t even know what they are. Friends would sleep over and my mom would make grits and ham for breakfast and when she would set them in front of them, they were unsure what they were. In fact, grits in New Jersey were so unusual that my grandmother would have to mail-order them from South Carolina. She would always give us each a bag of stone ground grits for Christmas. You can get instant grits, but they are nowhere near as good as the real deal.

Cookbook review: ‘Naturally Sweet and Gluten-Free’

I’ve never done a cookbook review on my blog before. Mostly because it’s not what I want my blog to be about or for. But when I was approached about “Naturally Sweet and Gluten-Free,” my curiosity got to me.

Regulars to my blog know that I like to bake gluten free. The way I figure it, humans have been consuming all sorts of grains for millennia, so why are Americans so wheat-and-corn centric? Because wheat and corn are subsidized by the government! Why should we limit ourselves when there are so many interesting alternatives out there — often making things much more flavorful and complex than boring, bleached wheat flour.
