Re "Batting cage's loss lamented" (Our Region, Oct. 8): As a parent of former C.K. McClatchy baseball players and a graduate of McClatchy myself,I believe that the Sacramento City Unified School District could have handled this situation differently. I know what it is like to fund raise to provide equipment, uniforms and such for our young athletes, then the pride that is felt when the goal is met and the need is filled. I can only imagine the satisfaction after the old cages were torn down and the new one created.
For the district to tear down the loving built replacement is such a slap in the face of all the boosters involved. Why couldn't the district have sent out contractors to inspect the construction to see if it was safe or needed a slight adjustment? The $20,000 is owed to the boosters, bottom line.
