Re "Fear of U.S. default spreads" (Page A1, Oct. 8): The government shutdown is a source of considerable concern. However, there are two groups in this country who do not have the slightest worry about the shutdown or their medical care. They are convicted criminals in prison and members of Congress, who get free medical care at taxpayers' expense.
These privileged folks don't have to worry if the government shuts down because, once again, they are immune from any of the consequences of their irresponsible behavior. At least criminals are incarcerated as punishment for their irresponsible behavior and can't do further harm. But members of Congress get a free ride. What generous fools we taxpayers are.
