The fact that the Bee decided to completely ignore the California Capital Airshow at Mather Field last weekend was an insult. The Canadian consul general came to see the Canadian Air Force Snowbirds give thousands of people a show they will never forget. The German consul general came to commemorate the Berlin airlift's 65th anniversary and to honor retired Air Force Colonel Gail Halverson, who not only flew one of the airlift planes but created the "candy drop."Also attending were 20 citizens from Berlin who were children when the airlift occurred. The Bee didn't run one photo or print one sentence on Sunday or Monday about the airshow. We will have airshows again, but being able to meet the people who were part of history won't be done again.

Editor's note: The Bee did publish stories on Oct. 4 and Oct. 5 saying that the show was going on despite the government shutdown.
