Re "Fear of U.S. default spreads" (Page A1, Oct. 8): Two party enforcers go to see the president. They say, "Nice setup you have here, it would be a shame if something were to happen to it. If you pay us, we'll make sure nothing happens to it.
What they don't say out loud is that if he caves in on this, the next time they will have a longer list of demands like abolishing Social Security, repealing civil rights laws and reversing Roe v. Wade. I guess majority rule is not in effect anymore. Why bother to vote when it makes no difference?
