Capital Christian senior forward D.J. Wilson has given a verbal commitment to play basketball next season at Michigan, according to Cougars coach Devon Jones.
The 6-foot-9 forward has helped Capital Christian win the past two Sac-Joaquin Section Division V championships. Last season, he averaged 9.7 points and 4.6 rebounds for the 26-5 Cougars.
Because of a back injury, Wilson missed the team's final four playoff games, including a 50-36 loss to St. Joseph Notre Dame of Alameda in the CIF D-V Northern California Regional finals.
New women's hoops coach for Sac State
Sacramento State named Bunky Harkleroad its new women's basketball coach, hoping his up-tempo attack that led Division II in scoring the past four seasons will pick up where his predecessor left off, the school announced Tuesday. Harkleroad, a D-II Coach of the Year candidate last season at Glenville State College in Glenville, W.Va., replaces Jamie Craighead, who left for the head coaching position at San Jose State.
"We're very excited to welcome Coach Harkleroad to the Hornet family," Sac State athletic director Terry Wanless said in a statement. "He brings a high energy offensive philosophy that we believe will be successful in the Big Sky."
In 13 seasons as a head coach, Harkleroad has an overall record of 258-120. His team averaged 95.3 points per game last season and set a D-II single-game record for three-pointers made with 21 vs. Shaw.
