Re Batting cages loss lamented (Our Region, Oct. 8): I cannot comprehend the decision behind the Sacramento City Unified School District tearing down the batting cages at McClatchy High School, and without warning to the school. Who ultimately made the decision? Who ordered the demolition crew to tear down the batting cage? Shouldn't our school district be fighting every day to support its students, athletes, coaches, teachers and principals?
If the district lives in terror of litigation, it should hire more competent counsel to represent it. Is it any wonder why so many of the best and brightest are fleeing for the San Juan school district and private schools? SCUSD should have fought tooth and nail to help McClatchy High correct whatever issues needed correcting with the batting cages. The buck has to stop with Superintendent Jonathan Raymond and the school board.
