Re "Many in GOP say default wouldn't be that bad" (Page A1, Oct. 9): One hundred years ago, the democratic republic governments of two countries were brought down by radical minority parties, destroying the democracies. Their method was to disrupt the function of the government, destabilizing it, and changing it into their own image. Those two countries were Russia and Germany. The minority radical parties were the Communists and Nazis.
Today the radical right is using what remains of the minority Republican Party to do the same thing. They appear to believe that by destroying our government, they can gain what they have not been able to gain democratically. Oh, they deny it, claiming that what they are doing is only in our nation's best interest, just as the Communists and Nazis did in their time.
If there is any decency left in the Republican Party they will reject these un-American destructive tactics, and present positive policies the people can support.
